With the dawning of a new season upon us and the Transfer Window open I figured that this would be the perfect time to begin a new Villa related blog. I grew up a Villa fan back in Birmingham, England but now I reside in Michigan. I have always had a real passion for the Villa and the one thing I miss about home is the roar of a match day. I have been to one game in the last five years as I was lucky enough to watch us beat Chicago Fire in a 1-0 win at Toyota Park.

This year is a huge year for our great club as we try to make our way back to the promised land: The EPL.

Hope you guys enjoy my blog as I bring you all the latest Villa Park News!

Amavi transfer confirmed

It now appears that Amavi will indeed be playing next season in Spain. Aston Villa and Sevilla have now agreed a fee for the left back and the deal is just pending on a medical. It is unclear at this time what the final fee was but I will keep you updated as this story unfolds.

5 Great Defenders

So with the signing of John Terry at the back it is already being speculated that he is going to be the greatest defender we have ever had on the books, have we already forgotten some of the greats we have already had? Never fear, I will remind you.

Paul Mcgrath

Olof Mellberg

Martin Laursen

Steve Staunton

Gary Cahill

Villa over the years have had some great defenders, it has only been in recent years that our defensive line has not been superb and although I agree that JT is one hell of a signing he has a long way to go to be as iconic for the club as these five!

Linked with Joe Hart

After the signing of John Terry there has been a buzz of speculation around Villa Park as to who Steve Bruce is going to sign next and all I have been hearing all day is that Villa are Championship favorites to sign Joe Hart.  It is clear that Villa are in desperate need of a new shot stopper with Johnstone heading back to United at the end of the season but I feel as though this one is incredibly unlikely. Joe Hart has incredible caliber as a Goalie and he is fully aware that if he drops down a division that has the potential to seriously put his international future in serious jeopardy. Southgate is well know from only drafting his team from top flight clubs and sadly Villa do not fit that bill. When you couple that with the fact that there has been interest from West Ham, Newcastle, Man United and Chelsea; why would he even entertain the idea of Championship football. He is only 30 and still has a price tag of around 20 Million, which happens to be a little bit out of our price range. Our best opportunity to land this player is on loan and Man City already stated they are only interested in a permanent deal. Guess this one is a pipe dream!

Villa deadlocked for 23 year old Defender

It is currently reported that Aston Villa are firmly locked in negotiations to offload Jordan Amavi to Spanish side Sevilla. Steve Bruce is fully aware that to bolster his squad for the up coming season he will have to unload some players. Its seems that Amavi will certainly be leaving the club in the near future. Sevilla have already tabled a 5.2 million pound bid for the player but the club are holding out on a valuation of over 10 million. This seems a little unrealistic to me as Amavi hasn’t really done it for me over the past few seasons. I find him to be very clumsy in position and he gives away to many fouls. I would be very happy to see him leave for 5 mil because at this level that is a decent chunk of change. We already have a primed replacement in Neil Taylor who really didn’t feature that strongly last year. I will keep you updated as this one unfolds.

New Captain?

So it has been speculated for a while now the The Mighty Villa would be signing John Terry who was available on a free after his Chelsea contract expired at the end of the season. When I first heard this news I did not believe that it was going to happen but I guess I was pleasantly surprised when it was announced yesterday. Although John Terry is now 36 years of age he is still going to be a great addition to our promotion push. JT has the experience we were lacking last season and will for sure tighten up our leaky defense. I would not be surprised at all to see him take the captains arm band come the start of the season as the player is a natural born leader. I hope some of our youth players get the opportunity to work with him and learn from his vast experience playing at the highest level possible. You can only assume that with the ambition shown by this signing that there will be more to follow.
